Shedeur, this, Shedeur, that—every possible Shedeur Sanders opinion has been reiterated four times throughout this draft cycle. He’s the most polarizing prospect in recent memory, and at this point, no one knows where he’s most likely to land. He doesn’t have the physical traits or cannon arm that most elite quarterbacks possess in the modern era, so would a team really use a premium pick on his services?
Analysts have grown skeptical about how he fits into a pro-style offense. There’s been plenty of buzz about Sanders tumbling down the board, but most assume he won’t get past the Jets at seven. Veteran insider Lance Zierlein sees it differently, and Sanders is freefalling down to the 29 in his latest mock draft.
“Sanders’ slide is over, as the Browns flip their No. 33 overall pick and an additional selection to the Commanders in order to take a swing at a QB of the future,” Zirelein wrote.
Zirelein had Cleveland taking Sanders’ Buffs teammate, Travis Hunter, second overall. That’s a script even Hulu would reject.
The NFL Network writer had Cam Ward (third) as the only other first-round signal-caller. In a league where so many franchises want to shake up their QB room, this seems preposterous.
This is a weak class, and teams will presumably swing for the fences at a premium position rather than reach for an undersized linebacker. Sanders’ tape can be shaky, but his timing and accuracy alone should be enough to help turn some heads. Don’t buy into the constant buzz—it’ll level out closer to April 24th.
