Where is DeVonta Smith from? Hometown, high school, and more to know about Eagles WR’s Louisiana roots

DeVonta Smith is remarkably accomplished for a 26-year-old. A national champion and Heisman Trophy winner at Alabama, Smith is about to play in his second Super Bowl and signed a lucrative extension with the Eagles less than a year ago.

All that’s missing at this point is a Lombardi Trophy — and Smith has a chance to win one near his hometown.

Super Bowl 59 is a homecoming for Smith, who battled minor injuries this season and missed four games before getting healthy ahead of the stretch run. The running game is still the focus of the Eagles’ offense, but Smith, A.J. Brown and Dallas Goedert could be game-breakers in New Orleans.

Here’s a look at Smith’s hometown and how the Super Bowl will bring a taste of home for the former Heisman winner.

Where is DeVonta Smith from?

Smith is from Amite City, Louisiana. Amite is a town of only about 4,000 people, as of 2020, but Smith has made it proud with a stellar college career that turned into an impressive NFL career.

Amite is less than a 90-minute drive to New Orleans, where Super Bowl 59 is being played. The Eagles and Chiefs will battle at the Caesars Superdome, the home of the Saints, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a large contingent of Smith’s family and friends attend the game despite sky-high prices.

Smith has a history at the Superdome. He was forced to sit out of a state championship game with a broken collarbone and watched his school lose to Livonia on one of the biggest stages in Louisiana.

All these years later, Smith is undoubtedly seeking a little bit of revenge — only this time, it’s the back-to-back champion Chiefs on the other side.

DeVonta Smith high school

Smith attended Amite High Magnet School in Amite, playing basketball and running track and field in addition to football.

The Eagles standout grew up only an hour from Baton Rouge, but Alabama won the recruiting battle over LSU to bring Smith to Tuscaloosa. Smith was heavily recruited by then-Crimson Tide receivers coach Billy Napier. Alabama reaped the rewards with two 1,000-yard seasons, including a dominant Heisman campaign in 2020.

From Amite to Tuscaloosa to Philadelphia and now back to New Orleans for one week, Smith’s football journey could peak with a Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.
