Why Margot Robbie’s Met Gala 2026 Dress Took Chanel 761 Hours

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Margot Robbie‘s Met Gala 2026 dress.

The Wuthering Heights star wore a gold gown while gracing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4. But despite the seemingly minimalist design, the dress took 761 hours to make, per Vogue.

The strapless metallic look by Chanel required 1,100 embroidery embellishments. That’s mostly thanks to the rows of lamé feathers adorning the back of Margot’s dramatic train.

Though Margot’s attendance at the Met isn’t a given—her last appearance was in 2023—fans have come to understand that Chanel is a safe bet for Margot’s designer of choice as a brand ambassador.

Being styled by the French fashion house is always an “honor,” the Barbie actress previously told Vogue at the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty”-themed Met. At the time, Margot rocked a 1993 gown first worn by Cindy Crawford, sharing, “It’s incredible. Obviously, the Met’s always an exciting night, but I had the great privilege of getting to know Karl to a certain extent.”
