Israel elections: Netanyahu in lead, exit polls say

Since the exit polls were announced hours earlier when voting ended, the room had been a scene of celebration as people jumped up and down, waved flags and chanted Netanyahu’s nickname, Bibi. One man repeatedly blew a shofar, or ram’s horn, a ritual instrument used by some Jewish people at times of special significance.

  1. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, during which they discussed the grain deal. This is reported by TASS with reference to the office of the Turkish leader.

According to Erdogan, Ankara will continue to take initiatives to solve problems around the food deal. He expressed confidence that a constructive approach would help resolve the difficulties in the dialogue between the parties.

The Turkish leader also thanked Putin for his words about the republic during a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.

Earlier, Putin called the purpose of the country’s participation in the grain deal — according to him, Moscow went to it for the sake of helping the poorest countries. The President said that as a result, about 34 percent of grain ends up in Turkey, 35 percent — in the EU countries.

Russia announced the suspension of participation in the grain deal after the ships of the Black Sea Fleet were attacked by drones in Sevastopol on October 29. The Russian Defense Ministry said that the strikes were carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The agency accused the UK of involvement in the attack, and also called the incident a terrorist act. The Ministry stressed that these vessels ensured the safety of the grain corridor.
